Members of the Congressional Black Caucus who had earlier stated that Blagojevich should not be allowed to appoint a replacement are now saying that Burris cannot be denied the seat because he would be the only black member of the Senate. Roland Burris is no more entitled to a Senate appointment on the basis of his race than Caroline Kennedy is on the basis of her family name.
